The first half of APOCALYPSE NOW was pretty accurate, but PLATOON was the most accurate. Both movies showed very realistic atrocities which were by no means rare. It was just the way that war had to be fought. Sicne you couldn't trust anyone Vietnamese, you had to shoot first ask questions later. And if you went in questioning locals for intel, you had to torture. Sometimes South Vietnamese specialists did the torturing, but Americans did too. And assassinations. Both sides carried them out. Both sides practiced terrorism in fact. The CIA had a secret war running the whole time using assassination and terrorism. The SEALS were their favorite operatives. Ask any ex SEAL. And read "everything we were" the great book of true stories from Nam. Read the chapter "Green Ghosts" or "Green Phantoms"
