Of course, you can't impose democracy.

Wait.. you said that's what we were trying to do... Impose democracy... And now you're flipping your opinion??

You're worse than Kerry..

That's kind of like trying to impose freedom and human rights...

You don't impose those values, you uncage them..

What is being imposed is the structure within which those freedoms can be realized, exercised, and expressed without violating the rights of others. Remember the old cliche, "your rights end where my rights begin"..

That's the Rule of Law you're referring to.

God knows we had precious little of it in this country for the first 150 years of its existence, unless you happened to be a white property-owning male.

But it was more than existed ANYWHERE in the world in the previous 1800 years... And yes.. it took time. And there was bloodshed, and there was chaos. And there were certain individuals who were not permitted to participate in suffrage.

But was it worth it? Where would this world be without the example that America presented 228 years ago? And how many nations within the following 100 years cast off their monarchies and opted for constitutional forms of government modeled on the US??

The problem is that no one has forced the corrupt and despotic regimes in the middle east to unleash their demcratic forces that exist instinctively within all human beings. And now we're seeing the result of this political negligence and the backlash from a despairing muslim youth..

What's clear is that Islamic militants are more than willing to use violence and terror TO IMPOSE an even more reactionary and regressive political model on the people of the region. They don't mind killing people to accomplish their agenda..

But apparently you find it unworthy to use force to confront and defeat these Theo-Fascists and unleash democratic reforms.

No... you get lost in the BS of the WMD argument, relying on your 20/20 hindsight, and conveniently ignore the real threat..

Saddam is gone.. Now we're fighting Islamic militants in Iraq. Militants who have always existed there.. Militants who entertained visions of overthrowing Saddam and replacing him with their Islamo-Fascist alternative... And now they are fighting us..

But it's nice to know you don't really believe in enforcing any "rule of law".. You certainly don't seem to believe that the international rule of law, as exercised via the UNSC's binding resolutions, should have been enforced.
