You have convinced me that you do indeed know what number you are thinking of, and may even be thinking of the same one you thought of four years ago, a feat admirable and remarkable even if you have wandered off by ten or twenty. And since I never beat dead horses or even very poorly behaved ones, I salute you, and offer several other numbers that may be The Answer.
579- the year Pythagoras was born, which also bears a striking resemblance to Mr. Mark's 549 and so I believe has some possibility of being correct.
321- the page on my battered copy of Little Women where Beth dies. A sentimental favorite. Since you probably don't own this edition, it is unlikely you have chosen this number.
655- the month and year I fell off the monkey bars and had to have stitches in my chin. This number is offered in hopes of gaining your sympathy.
451- the temperature at which this post if printed will combust, and convince you by grand spectacle that you certainly WERE thinking of it all along.
I am too lazy to look and see if these numbers have been guessed by others. That's your job anyway.
And so in closing, I feel sure that "I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be." And I thank you for your time. Here it is 6:55 pm-- which also happens to be the date I fell off the monkey bars. This certainly increases the chances of it being correct, I should think.
