re: That was the idea behind communism and it's modern cousin, socialism. When individual freedoms are suppressed for the cause of the "greater good," and when the "greater good" feeds a culture of dependency and entitlements, the system breaks down. These aren't surface problems with the implementation of such a system, but fundamental problems with the underlying assumptions behind the "greater society" myth. Trying to fix them would be as futile as trying to make water run up a stream. It's simple human nature.

A surprising un-Christian attitude.

The nature of this country has always been the more fortunate helping the less fortunate. Not political or religious. Just generous. We've always been good people. "There but by the grace of God goes I".
