The interesting thing in the story is how many times Jesus got bumped around while the locals kept screaming for more blood. I think the point that is forgot in the telling is Jesus was a Jew and not some unlucky Mick who just happened to wander into town, i.e. he was killed by his own with the help of a foreign power because he interfered. God or no God he was a pain in the ass, he interrupted commerce, the people adored him.

The scourging as filmed would have killed anyone prior to the rest of the torture prior to being nailed to the cross so that was definitely over-done. The story line was as much from the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich as it was from scripture.
