Tenchusatsu, RE: "Here's an example: If we can't trust the rich to be charitable on their own, then why don't we force Bill and Melinda Gates to fork over everything in their foundation to the government?"

Because they are already contributing to charity. So does the Moore family.

But what does Larry Ellison do for society?

On a different note. Am not following your explanation here:

"That was the idea behind communism and it's modern cousin, socialism. When individual freedoms are suppressed for the cause of the "greater good," and when the "greater good" feeds a culture of dependency and entitlements, the system breaks down. These aren't surface problems with the implementation of such a system, but fundamental problems with the underlying assumptions behind the "greater society" myth. Trying to fix them would be as futile as trying to make water run up a stream. It's simple human nature. Tenchusatsu"

I've often thought (but never said) your political beliefs do not seem to match your strong Christian beliefs. Am curious how you match the two together. (I ask this with curiosity, not with the purpose to attack your point of view.)

One question I asked you a few months ago, was something like: don't you think one aspect a religious person tries to follow, is to be sensitive to people?

Regards,
Amy J
