I like Montoya. He is the understated guy who plays it much more straight than Schumi. When he is there on the podium, you can see how uncomfortable he is under the spotlight, while Schumi sprays the fifty meter radius are
In addition... Scumacher has a history of being-less-than-ethical driver willing to push off the track any driver, Montoya, as you say is more a straight-forward guy and more of the traditional true to form driver in the classical style, whereas Schumacher is the modern era 'corporate & sponsor' image guarding [whore]-driver... -g
The really sad part of it is...
Schumacher does not need to be that way. He is a brilliant driver, and can do things that very few can...
The best example I can give is what happened this past GP at Imola...
As soon as Jenson Button went in to refuel & tires, Schumacher, for three laps or so, put the fastest laps he could, just like that. This assured him, together with Ferrari's pit crew, that when it was his turn to refuel... he had open a large enough gap that as he return to the track, Button was still behind him... so there is no doubt that Schumacher is a well above average driver... and remember F-1 are the best drivers, without question... so why would he resort to those tactics? the only logical answer is a misguided greed for winning at all costs, without any regard to ethical issues...
so be it. |
