Yup. A HUGE mistake. It's crazy to compromise in a "face" culture when one has the upper hand. I disagree we have to turn this shithole over to the Iraqi sooner or later. We can't become an occupation army. It is good to kill as many of the dead enders and Jihadi's as we can, but I can't say that I was seeing a positive outcome of leveling Falluja, it was a no win situation for the US. Perhaps if we had Sistani and other Iraqi's asking us publicly to do this, we could level Falluja. But without public support from a major Iraqi politician (i.e political cover) our military hands are going to me tied sooner rather than later. After June 30th 2004 or Jan 2005 we are going have to check with the Iraqi government before performing any military operations in the country. We have to keep ouur word and turn Iraq over to the Iraqi's. Also I don't think that raq is going to end up with a white flag as the national flag. That was another dump move.
