I don't think we'll leave, even if Kerry gets elected. The civil war that would follow would make us look like idiots for leaving. Of course, we'll look like idiots for staying, too, but at least there is hope that an Iraqi state could survive with our help.

There are unfortunately no good options. As tekboy has said, this is the story of foreign policy, choosing one bad option over another. vbg.

Staying the course seems like the only viable alternative to me, at present. But we have to do so seriously, with no compromises--the insurgents have to be defeated. This is the test of our resolve. Win this one, and I think it will be mostly downhill.
