Re Vietnam, I fully agree with you that: The war was lost because it was not executed with conviction or purpose

Why do you suppose that is?
Politicians.
Now how does that happen?
They think they are doing something unpopular
that will drain away votes.
So, they're either prospectively worrying
about protests or reacting to it when
it inevitably comes.

If we're going to undertake something, we
need to do it right. If there have been failures
in Iraq, they need to be addressed, righted and
the process of re-building and transition completed.
It sounds like we agree on that.

I think where we differ is on the effect of our
divisiveness and protests here. In this age of
instant communication, I think there is little
doubt that the anti-war and extreme anti Bush rhetoric,
Kerry's proposed grand gestures of apology, etc.
essentially embolden our enemies everywhere.
Even OBL used Democrat playbook phraseology in his
recent video.

I've always said that what makes us strong also
makes us weak. This is a good example.
