It is shocking, but it's also what happens when young men go to war. There will always be abuses- war IS abusive- after all it's ritualized, "legalized" killing. I think some people kind of sanitize the whole idea of what war is, so they can think about it more agreeably. Those pictures don't represent the worst of what happens in a war- they are certainly bad, and it's going to hurt the US mightily in terms of PR, but it's too bad, really, because the real viciousness of war is a lot bigger than what is happening in those pictures.
