| TSIG, the honorable thing now may also involve protecting the Iraqi people from what we have started. We took the lid off the ethnic pressure cooker that is Iraq. Sure, they aren't killing each other now at the rate they could be (although ethnic killings are occurring, we just don't get to hear about them in this country)- but that is because they are united to a large extent in hating, or worrying, about the US occupier. When we are gone, and we are no longer the focal point, huge problems, and even civil war, may erupt. It will not be honorable for us to leave when that is very likely to happen, because it is our fault it will happen. While I firmly believe we should never have gotten into this gross mistake of a war, I think we have to be very careful how we exit. |
