I don't think a person becomes a suicide bomber for pay. So that issue is too stupid to discuss. The kill themselves out of despair and to lash out at the people who are destroying their dignity.
Why do you find that so strange? Every year there are literally hundreds of cases of fraud wherein people commit suicide, or make their deaths look like a murder, so that their families will collect the life insurance..
$25,000 is a mighty large sum of money for the average Palestinian. It would equate to around 10 years wages for the average Palestinian (those that aren't already unemployed)...
No job, guarantee that their wives and children would be cared for at least 10 years.. And if the parents have too many kids, they can "spare one" for a suicide bombing and take care of the other kids..
And why worry? After all, they will be taken into Allah's bosom, which is where they all wish to end up anyway...

What about all of the other societies that have existed which have endured FAR WORSE humiliation and degradation? (where do I start?).. Did they make a habit of advocating suicide bombers targeting unarmed individuals as something to encouraged?
Are they expanding their settlements into occupied territories and expelling other people out of their homes?
Now quite buying the "expelling" part, since most of the Jewish settlements have been built on uninhabited land...
But I can bring to attention the condition of christians who once made up 95% of Bethlehem's population.. It is now 80+% muslim, because the Christians have all been persecuted by the Islamists and fled..

And I think Bush made a major mistake by trying to legitimize it as "the reality on the ground".
