tsig the US still is better than a lot of countries, but there are NO 100% good guys in a war. Think about the statistical liklihood of the odd sociopath or sadist (or very poor decision maker) being in a military unit- it's going to happen. We are still (sort of) the good guys- or we are as good as we ever were. In WWII there were atrocities, and my father saw some rather horrible things which he wrote down in a small diary I am reading. In ALL the wars anyone has ever fought there are terrible things that happen- and I don't think you can generalize from the odd raping/looting/torture- and condemn the whole armed forces. Our military is pretty restrained as military institutions go, but we train these young men and women to kill- and a few of them are going to see a lot of other stuff as being in their purview if they get to do that.

In other words- no matter who was at the helm, this kind of thing would happen in a war. Would Kerry have been less likely to get us IN to war? That's the real question, and I hope the answer is yes. Honestly, I don't know for sure- but almost anything is better than baby Bush.
