Hi Yogi,
I sponsor children in 4 countries through World Vision. They and their families all live like slaves compared to us. There is a fetish afoot to condemn China to the exclusion of all the other culprits. Possibly because China has many running scared, I don't know. Maybe because they have a communist government ? I don't know. Maybe because democracies like India and Brazil don't have millions of debased people living like slaves or worse ? Again I don't know but I know they have them. If China stays on track this will become a that was then issue just like slavery in the US became.. As I posted to tooearly on another thread we can't just wave a magic wand and expect these countries to simply join polite society.. It didn't work that way for the US or Canada or Britain or whomever... why do suddenly expect other nations to do so... I could go down a long list of dictatorships yada yada supported by western powers when it suited them.. seems very hypocritical to be singling out China now.. If China doesn't get their act together it will implode from social unrest. Their leaders are well aware I'd wager...

Just as the US has done I'd wager that China will continue to do what is best for China... The original colonists of the North Americas, like my French ancestors that arrived in Québec City in the early to mid 1600s were did so because and because they are either desperate to escape poverty as did my Irish ancestors that came in the 1800s fleeing the Potato Famine, as did my Chinese grandfather in the late 19th century (that was never allowed to bring his wife over to the civilised West... whodathunkit eh, us being westerners of high moral bearing and all), he fleeing a life of poverty induced despair..

American workers through this so-called "free trade" farce... As to this there are two options... build a wall and become isolationist and sink in your own stool or get off the pot and compete... Capitalism sucks when you don't have all the cards... just like democracy (according to Churchill) but got a better system ? The pie is being divided more ways. That's not going to change.

When I was in China I talked with lots of regular folks and saw many things. In fact pretty well exclusively regular folks.. They see opportunity just like the wild wild west used to be..

Just my two cents...

regards
Kastel
