I don't think American people really want to know if WMDs were there or whether Al Quaeda was involved. Sep 11 was a great shock. It frightened most people. This kind of enemy attack never hit home so close.

There was an instinctive urge to lash out. But US is a good democracy with excellent judicial system. You can't easily get away with a hate crime.

Collectively one could find an outlet. Bomb the hell out of another country - pick one or two, it does not matter which.
