Frank:

Just discovered your thread and would appreciate if you have comments about several of my questions:

1.Have any tracks been successful in opening in recent years? If memory serves me right, one in Birmingham, Alabama flopped very quickly. I think one opened in Houston as well but I don't know how it is faring.

2. Maryland has OTB as well, with, as I remember, a proviso that none would be closer than 30 miles from Laurel or Pimlico. There are only a few OTB sites open in the state--and that is after some years of legalization. Isn't the 200 projected for VA possibly wildly optimistic?

3. Will Delaware Park be open at the same time as CD? If so, it will filter the small pool of horses that might have gone to CD. Delaware Park, as you know, has soared with high purses and, of course, slot machines.

4. The fact is that some tracks today are suffering. This generation doesn't seem to play the horses--and simulcasting revenue has become a life-saving earner for tracks such as Laurel and Pimlico. Will other tracks simulcast CD's racing?

I do appreciate your enthusiasm for CD and and straight answers. I'm interested in Colonial Downs as a possible investment but, I have to admit, somewhat pessimistic about the future of racing in the US on the whole because of declining attendance.
