I hope the officers in the chain of command responsible for that prison also end up in front of a court martial. The military only works well when training and command are effective. I have a tremendous amount of respect for our military most of the time.

But any organization with hundreds of thousands of people and millions of moving parts has breakdowns. How the brass deals with the breakdowns is a real measure of the organization.

If this Guard unit had screwed up something seriously during the initial assault on Baghdad, it could have resulted in hundreds of US casualties. This incident was disgusting; bigger screwups could be much worse.

We'll see if the Pentagon is serious about fixing the problem, or if they go into "sweep-under-rug" mode like the good little bureaucrats most of them are.
