Here is the difference between our torture and Saddam's torture. Our torture resulted from placing young and unsophisticated Americans in positions of virtually absolute authority without adequate supervision and leadership from the military hierarchy. Saddam's torture was national policy, implemented by thousands of sadists who apparently enjoyed their work. With Saddam's torture, hundreds of thousands of people were actually mutilated and actually died. I think it is highly likely now that abuses by our troops and by the British will be substantially curbed and the abuses will be systematically investigated with those involved punished as required by the UCMJ. The difference between you and me, Ray, is that there is room in my world for you where there is clearly no room in your world for me.
