Zell Miller backed segregationist Lester Maddox and in his old (senile) age has been sliding back into the Old South mentality, mixing rightwing Christianity and closet racism to put scorn on anything moderate or liberal in the world. Something this happens with old people, they start to feel out of touch with the modern world so they slide back into old-old memories. Miller is dreaming of the plantation.
