Net2Phone picks up second U.S. cable deal

May 3, 2004

Net2Phone has dialed up another U.S. cable deal, inking a pact with Northland Cable Television to provide IP telephony services to subscribers in the MSO's Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Washington, California, and Idaho systems.

Northland plans to roll out cable telephony this summer, passing 315,000 homes.

"Net2Phone brings telephony solutions geared for various sized markets in the cable industry, making them an ideal partner for us," said Jack Dyste, Northland's senior vice president and technical services. "With Net2Phone, we can provide our customers with a comprehensive bundle of voice, video and data, giving them choices in all forms of communications."

Under the pact, Northland will maintain ownership of its telephony service and brand, and it will run its own customer service and technical support. Net2Phone will supply the provisioning and billing integration for the telephony service, including a unified Northland invoice, CLASS 5 switching platform, advance features, network surveillance tools, local and long distance interconnects, operator services/directory assistance and service level agreements.

It is the second announced U.S. deal with a cable operator for Net2Phone's PacketCable-based telephony service. The company also is in final negotiations to provide cable telephony services with Cebridge Connections, a St. Louis-based MSO managed by Cequel III, LLC.

Net2Phone also three contracts with Caribbean providers as well as its original deployment with Liberty Cablevision in Puerto Rico.
