"First of all, why are those Shiite insurgents called "terrorists" now under Bush but where innocent civilians under Saddam????"

Duh...because under Saddam they were citizens who were oppressed. Now they are armed and committing acts of terrorism.

"The FACT is that the MESS that Bush finds himself in, including now the Shiite uprising AND the TORTURES in the Iraqi prisons is no different than what Saddam had to deal with to try and keep Iraq together as one country."

I understood that Saddam's approach worked to keep the country together serving his dictatorship. Doesn't make it good or right. I also think the Bush Admin was naive (at least it seems that way) regarding the volitility of the cultural mix post defeat of Saddam. Doesn't mean we should revert to the Saddam approach. Bush, and the US military have correctly labeled the torturous treatment under our guard as disgusting and an anomoly.

"I suggest you read the articles that I gave you and read about the ONLY SECULAR Arab country that Iraq was under Saddam...

I have been studying this culture for years before it came on the left wing "hot topic" list. You don't sacrifice human honor and dignity for a political ideal. Welllll, maybe you do. But in principle it is wrong.

"But you see, a strong, educated and rich Iraq does not play well with the powers that be that need cheap oil. And in order to get cheap oil you need their people to live in poverty, uneducated and in constant fighting so that we could make money supplying them weapons and taking their oil."

Your analysis is flawed. Saddam was the cowboy of the Middle East who went against OPEC to cut the price of oil. That is one of the reasons why the US was friendly with him originally. The fact that he was open to the kind of social engineering that embraced Western culture was another. The Arab dependance on Western lifestyle and goods (bought with oil money) is a boon to our economy. So, having them more educated and materially afluent is in our interests. However, when his heinously criminal behavior and goals for world domination began to be a threat to the World's stability, things changed.
