Year 2000 Industry Prepares for H.C. Wainwright Investor Conference
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 1997--
Experts to Discuss Views on Latest Solutions
H.C. Wainwright announced today its sponsorship of the Year 2000 Investor Conference, a 2-day event which will be held on September 11-12 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. Co-sponsored by Arthur Andersen & Co., Goodwin, Procter & Hoar LLP, HighGround, Inc., and Bowne & Co., the focus of the conference will be the Year 2000 and similar "mass change" problems, the companies which are best positioned to address such problems, and the progress of business and government in confronting the Year 2000 issue. Guest speakers and presenting companies will discuss the scope of the Year 2000 problem, available solutions, and investment strategies for Year 2000 stocks.
The Year 2000 problem stems from the inability of many computer systems to handle two-digit date formats beyond "99", meaning, for example, that they can't distinguish 2000 from 1900. Industry analysts project that over the next few years, organizations will spend anywhere from $300 billion to $600 billion on software and related programming services to alleviate the problem.
"There is no shortage of vendors who claim to have solutions that will address this problem," said Alex Arnold, Software & IT Services Analyst at Wainwright. "The challenge for investors is to determine who the real winners will be in a market that offers a number of competing solutions. This conference will provide attendees with the opportunity to hear first-hand from senior executives at the industry's leading companies how they are planning to deal with the Year 2000 issue, and why they are well-positioned for long-term success, once the immediate problem has been resolved."
Special guest speakers at the conference include Peter DeJager, President, DeJager & Co., a consultancy specializing in Year 2000 issues; Bruce Hall, VP Marketing & Strategic Relationships, Trigent Software; and Tom Oleson, Research Director, International Data Corp.
