MACR, like most software vendors, sell their software for use on
MACs and for Windows. They have done this for a number of years, so it is
not a correct perception that they were a MAC company that suddenly decided to
abandon that market and enter the Windows market. Now, if they produced
a mass market product like Quicken and their product ran decidedly better on MACs
than PCs. One might argue they need to worry more about the 95% of the market (Windows)
and less on the 5%(MAC). But, their main product director is a tool, and I still
think most of the people using the tools still use a MAC. Now, as those people abadon MACs
and buy PCs. They will buy Director for Windows and that probably accounts for a good deal of the
increase in sales for Wintel-based products.
The big problem with MACR is that they are not really producing a mass market product.
Maybe, they are trying to market their non-Director software in such a way that it reaches millions
instead of hundreds of thousands. And, I guess that is why I am hanging around. I am hoping
they use Director to maintain technical supremacy and positive cash flow while finding
some product that everyone will need to use. An intial product might be a tool that creates
television-like viewing over the computer. The jackpot would be something that
veveryone needs to buy in order to view television-like viewing.
