Hi Scott,

re: "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?" -- John Kerry, veteran, 1971

I guess the question that comes to my mind.

Is how do you ask anyone to die in a mistaken war, first, last, middle or whatever? They all paid the price. No matter what the order.. That's why there can NOT be any mistakes made in going to a first-strike, unilateral war without being attack.. Whether Vietnam or Iraq..

And that's why I get so pissed about initial war supporters being so cavalier about changing their positions after the fact. Like nothing happened.. Well something did happen while they took their sweet time.. People were killed and maimed, lives destroyed here and on the other side for YEARS to come. What else can I say? Except I can't excuse that..

From our POV, IMO, since we are the most powerful nation in the world, If we should err, it always should be on the side of caution to save lives and devastation. In other words, we have to be god damn careful about our use of our tremendous power if we are to remain a MORAL society.
