Dems want swift action; GOP defers to administration

A partisan split is developing on Capitol Hill over whether Congress should launch an investigation on the abuses U.S. soldiers inflicted on Iraqi prisoners of war.

Key Democratic lawmakers are calling for Congress to launch an independent inquiry, but several Republicans dismissed the notion that Congress should get involved before the administration concludes its own inquiries.
