You can only relate what your mechanic tells you. If he tells you it is burning oil, and you have no special reason to doubt, there is no lie to say it is burning oil.
In ant event, I do not think that the CIA and the intelligence services of our allies were that mistaken. WMDs were stockpiled, whatever was done with them.
I never thought there would be absolutely no resistance. Some people did greet us as liberators. We now know, though, that there was real fear of retaliation from the Ba'athists. Cheering was more widespread when Saddam was captured.
I never thought that the first wave of reconstruction would be paid for with Iraqi oil revenues, and I do not, offhand, recollect anyone in the Administration making such a commitment.
I do you no more an injustice than you do me. I would say rather less.
I do not think that people in power work for me, or necessarily reflect my interest. However, I trust them to broadly do their job, unless I can point to a solid reason to object to something. When they share my views broadly, as does the Administration, I am of course likelier to find myself in agreement, but partisanship is certainly not the determinant per se. For example, I supported Clinton in the matter of Kosovo....... |
