Hi Cartonet,
I doubt that Asahi Softdrinks (2598.J) will keep the payout ratio constant if earnings will quintuple or more since they are planning for essentially doubling revenues in a very short time. Maybe dividends may double or triple. However you can be assured that money plowed back to finance growth might be spent even better than paid out - don't forget most people around the world (we Europeans certainly too) undergo a reallly discriminatory dividend taxation treatment, leading me to the conclusion not to give much weight to dividends. It should be noted however that JPN firms usually do pay dividends and if a company does a turnaround like Asahi Softdrinks (2598.J) then resumption of the dividend is mostly one of their first priorities..

BTW: looking to pharma stocks in Japan as of late but a tad unsure.. Dainippon might be cheap but I have to analyze their pipeline first..
