Addi, I have not yet seen a Java application that has acceptable performance and a non-clunky UI.
Can you suggest such an application that I can either buy (commercial software) or download (I'm sure there are lots of shareware authors working on Java stuff) for my PC?
BTW, I am not referring to small Java browser applets, of which there are many good examples. (Though I have to say that only the smaller ones have impressed me. For example, I use SneakerChat (see sneakerchat.com) on a web site of mine, and find it's performance quite good, and UI acceptable (though not great). I am referring to a complex application - say, a word-processor, text editor, PIM, maybe a stock charting tool, etc. etc. etc.
I will have to admit that I have only tried a few large Java applications, but in all cases they were absolutely terrible. I have tried a couple of stock-charting programs (forget the name, but one has been hyped quite a bit - actually a browser applet, but because of the complexity I feel this qualifies as an "application" - you can probably help me out with remembering this one.) I have also tried Netscape's Netcaster, which was a total flop (WAY too slow to be useful, even on a 200mHz Pentium). Oh, and Marimba Castinet. Let's not forget that "gem"...
Help me out Addi - I've obviously only found the turkeys - now, help me find the good stuff.
Thanks. |
