I have no doubt that there are many vets who do not support Kerry. I also have no doubt that most of those non-supporters also did not support Clinton or Gore.

All you have to do is take a look at the PGWB board to see that there are an awful lot of people who will refuse, under any circustances, to believe that a liberal democrat served his country honorably.

I think this retired doctor who is the latest cause celebre of the right is an example of that. His story is so implausible that only those committed to the right would believe it:

(1) he remembers treating this minor wound thirty years later (I could understand remembering complicated surgery, but if he merely put a bandaid on someone, why remember that?);

(2) he remembers that there was talk of John Kerry wanting to be the next JFK (when you are worried about getting shot in the ass everyday, who really talks about stuff like that?);

(3) members of Kerry's crew said the story wasn't as Kerry told it (why would they discuss that with a doctor? do medical doctors routinely discuss that sort of thing?)

The whole thing has Karl Rove's fingerprints all over it.
