coca cola is a wonderful example of the long term hold 3 years is very short term.
Thats where I made my mistake. I thought that 3 years was long term. Is it reasonable then to just buy a company (especially a fine one like ko) and just "forget" it, other than watching the news?
I certainly think its a great stock for retirement, as I dont believe that bonds are a good investment even then, although all the retirement analysts seem to think after retirement bonds are the way to go. I will still, at that point, want stocks, which I think are always growth opportunities.
Anyway, I've done what I've done (realized I lost $7 a share that I will have to pay in taxes so not smart, I was thinking it would go down much further than $58) and I'll let my gains in cpq grow and rethink in a few years. (Still always watching the news of course!)

Of course one thing I liked about owning ko stock is I like the product. It sounds corny but I enjoyed owning a part of something I use and enjoy. I dont actually have a compaq computer, they are too expensive for me right now. (Maybe after owning the stock a while?)
