First.....I followed the posts downstream before I attempted to respond......and finally....after all of these years.....I am able to state publicly, to a Vietnam Vet, thank you for EVERYTHING you have done for me and my country.

Thanks to you and all of the men and women who put their lives on the line during the Vietnam war. I will always be grateful for you sacrifices.

Even though I was a young teenage girl when our soldiers and POWs started coming home from Vietnam the various images I saw of the "peaceniks" have never been far from my mind. And because of their behavior, I was never so confused...and now...30 years later.....so angry.

I was way too young to understand the politics behind the "movement" and I couldn't understand why Americans were saying and doing what they were saying and doing, but I remember the awful feeling of shame in my gut when I saw Americans trample, burn and spit on our flag and the disrespect they showed our soldiers when they came home was appalling.

I was brought up to believe that no matter what, you stand behind the flag of the United States and the soldier who defends it. I was taught to be thankful for his sacrifices and his unselfish willingness to protects us. For that he deserve our deepest respect and gratitude.

I taped the CSPAN program that CobaltBlue mentioned last night, and I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I hope it will help shed some light on John Kerry's mission, and that we can get a better insight into what kind of American he is.

Somehow I don't think the word "hero" describes him at all.
