The fact that some options expire worthless in no way negates the fact that at one point they had value and therefore could easily be construed as an expense to the company. One can say ex-post that the ex-ante estimated value was too high (in hindsight of course). But heck you can make the same argument about worldcom stock; people were paying real money for those shares for quite a while though. LOL
