My friend is an interesting charactor. Self made millionaire and gun collector. Landed in Danang in the original Marine Air lift portion of the landing in 65 with 1 or 2/3. Did his tour and went back later with 1/9 as a platoon Sgt. He liked it there, a comment I have heard from a number of combat vets in the past. Notice the reenlistment rates now?? He wanted to go back a third time but they wouldn't let him. Sent him to guard Truman in Key West instead. He said he always set out claymores at the slightest provocation when they stopped for the night... "Claymores are a man's best friend".

I have usually found that stories come out in bits occasionally and are expanded upon if interest is shown. My comment was in regard to family picnic style social gatherings, which is where I used to hear such stories from my uncles about ww 2 in the fifties. I suspect that this year Kerry and his medals will be subjects of discuss. I think the subject of VN has come up and won't go away now. It's about time for the vets to start unloading some of their memories and the recent CNN interview of the vets on Kerry could start the flood. Lets face it, if Kerry got a Silver Star for shooting a running wounded guy in the back who was armed with an unloaded rocket launcher, you probably deserve a bucket full of CMoHs. I'd be surprised if a lot of vets don't draw the same conclusion to themselves. But I could be wrong.

The K-31 shoots well!! I'm awaiting brass and dies to roll my own as the commercial/surplus is expensive. These rifles commonly shoot 1 inch and less at 100 yards with the right loads. I did about 3/4 of an inch using 41.5 grains of IMR 3031 and 150 gr bullets at 100y which my friend had loaded in his brass. Surprised me. I expect that load would open up a lot by the time it gets to 500 meters which is the max I can shoot at so am going to try the load closer to the bullet weight of 175-180 grains when the stuff gets here. And to think it only cost $105!!
