Yes, I agree. There needs to be accountability by physicians and drug companies, obviously, but the increasing bureaucratic burden is only making bad worse. I read an article in my local paper the other day about a nearby firm of doctors who only make house calls. After reading about the $100/hour cost of a doctor's office I can see why it would be more profitable to work out of a van. :-)

Re: life extension. This is a toughie, because so many health problems now the result of lifestyles, in particular the lack of exercise in a typical person's day. Sometimes the solutions are not what you'd think, either. Last fall I took my husband to a physician who specializes in alternative approaches because of his constant throat clearing, which hadn't responded to anything we'd tried. Turns out his body is not processing gluten properly, plus his triglycerides were sky high and cholesterol too high as well. She put him on a gluten-free, very low carb diet plus a detox program for a few months. He's lost 15 lbs and his triglyceride count has been cut in half, though we're still working on the cholesterol. And his throat clearing has almost disappeared. Who'da thunk it?
