Juniper, Terayon trial jointly developed cable delivery platform
CommsDesign.com - May 05, 2004

LONDON — Broadband access equipment providers Terayon Communication Systems and Juniper Networks have started trials with leading international cable operators of a jointly developed platform aimed at delivering broadband services over cable networks.

The architecture combines Terayon's latest Docsis2.0 compliant cable modem termination system, the BW3500 CMTS, with Juniper Networks' IP edge routing platforms. The companies say the system will provide cable operators with a more flexible, scalable and efficient network compared with existing solutions that are based on proprietary protocols.

The jointly developed architecture will ensure seamless interoperability between the edge routing platforms and the CMTS, as well as validate new VPN (Virtual Private Network) services and application-based routing and tunneling capabilities.

Operators who have already deployed both Terayon DOCSIS 2.0 CMTSs and Juniper Networks edge routing platforms will be able to easily upgrade these systems to the new platform.

As part of the deal Terayon has joined the Juniper Infrastructure Alliance Program, which includes companies developing and delivering interoperable solutions ensures streamlined operational efficiency for rapid deployment of new broadband services.
