Not as many as needed. Countries in the Americas didn't start allowing large numbers of immigrants again for several decades after that. When Israel was founded, there were still Jews living in DP camps in Europe. Some of them refugees from Poland who fled after the 1946 Kielce pogrom and related anti-semitic violence.
