Remember, in Washington, it's not the things you do that hurt you, it's the cover-up.

Nixon had to resign because John Dean wanted to recover and destroy evidence that his wife was a former call-girl - so says Liddy - or merely a good enough friend of a call-girl madam that her name was in the madam's address book, say Mo Dean's defenders.

Either way, it was the cover-up that destroyed Nixon.

And the cover-up that got Clinton impeached and disbarred.
