Viisage Receives Official Order from U.S. Department of Defense for Smart Card Program: Order kicks off integration of Viisage's technology into U.S. Government's largest smart card program
ARLINGTON, Va. & BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2004-- Viisage (Nasdaq: VISG - News), a leading provider of advanced technology identity solutions and parent company of Trans Digital Technologies Corporation, today announced that the Company has received the official order to support the production of secure, smart credentials as part of the Common Access Card (CAC) smart card program from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The initial purchase order is valued at $10.2 million. News of the order follows the April 2, 2004 announcement of Viisage's selection for this program by the DoD.
As previously reported, Viisage will provide a solution to the DoD's Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) through Telos, the DMDC's support contractor. The solution, which is expected to include 1,700 Toppan CP400 printers as the fixed-site desktop printers, as well as consumables and services, will be used for the production of secure identification cards throughout the Real-time Automated Personnel Identification System (RAPIDS). Implementation is scheduled to begin immediately and will continue over the next 12-18 months. |
