The Serbs were defending themselves? Sort of like how the Nazis were defending themselves, eh?
Surely religion was a great influence in the nationalism that ensued as a result of the breakdown of the Ottoman Empire, but at the end of WWI the Versailles peace treaties defined the Balkans such that Serbs were left in essential authority of the newly created Yugoslavian government, which consisted also of Croats and Slovenes. Their government was recognized by the world, was established by treaty, was legitimate. The reason for the modern unrest had more to do with developing Croatian hatred of the authoritarian form of government than with any sort of Christian Jihad from the Serbs (dear me). After all, it was the murder of the legitimate Yugoslavian monarch by Croats, not Serbs, that paved the way anew for what would happen with Hitler. There is little comparison at all between what happened in Serbia and what is happening all across the world with murderous muslims. The Serbs never once exported murder to other nations in the name of Christianity, unlike the muslims do in the name of their heathen god.
Serbians were the aggressors, and the 'bad guys' (else why would they be the ones being convicted of war crimes?)
Dear me. The ignorance here is nauseating. Clearly you don't know the history and I am not about to explain it to you any more than I already have.
They fought under the fascade of their Christian culture against the 'Muslim hordes', a fight that goes back centuries. The root of (true) Balkanization IS religion, and the cultural differences that arose from the different religious groups.
Undoubtedly the same can be said of the struggle between Atheists and Christians in Bolshevik Russia. Religion is inescapable. You've just stated the obvious. So we can learn nothing new here. The issue of importance is that no other religion on earth, none, not even godless Atheists, are exporting murder as a terroristic weapon based upon their religion. Only the muslims are doing this.
And your missing the point on the Crusades and the Inquisition. The point is that they were started under the guise of religion...
This is quite ridiculous. You apply empty-headed terms like "guise" to the Crusades and Inquisition as if you have some authority to ultimately determine true religion from that practiced by the perpetrators of those regional episodes. Perhaps from their vantagepoint the Inquisitors were practicing authentic Christianity. It was when Christians referred to their own texts, fought against and ultimately ended the episodes that a more authoritative definition was put into effect. We see no such substantive counter-definition of islam where worldwide muslim terrorism is concerned. We've never seen it in all of islamic history.
Today, a similar hijacking of religion has occurred, only this time it is Islam's turn.
From its earliest years, Islam has employed terrorism and violence as a means of spreading itself. That cannot be said of Christianity. In every single major instance of impropriety by so-called Christians, other Christians have openly waged a substantial effort against it, often using the Bible as the authoritative weapon for what is good. There is no such substantial force against islam as practiced by murderous muslims worldwide. There never has been such a force in islam since it began some 600 years after Christ.
More may have been killed in recent times by godless heathens, but I'd wager not when you factor in all killed during historical religious wars.Crusades, Hundred Years War, genocide in Central and South America, etc.
Well, these so-called Christian wars were not fought to destroy other religions, since most were fought Christian against Christian. You mention the Hundred Years War for example. Edward III and Philip VI were both Catholics. So clearly the issue here had nothing to do with religion. And no one, but you, is claiming that some religious Jihad is behind the murders in South America (my!). So you are left here with only the likes of the Inquisition and the Crusades, both of which were ended by Christians themselves and neither of which caused anything near the wholesale destruction caused by Atheists and muslims. But at least Atheists are not exporting their terror worldwide. Islam, unlike Christianity, has no fit counter-defining answer to terrorism. Its people are largely silent. They have always been silent when murder and savagery are employed against others.
Maybe we should just ban -isms.
Agreed, and we should begin with Mohammedism and Atheism, the two most murderous religions in human history. |
