The Holocaust was committed by people who held power. It was committed against people without power.


There are other points as well. The Holocaust was committed by people who we thought were civilized and incapable of descending to that kind of barbarity. We still haven't recovered from learning otherwise.

However, it's not the power alone that created the Holocaust, it's the ideology, and the lust for domination, and prolonged weakness of the democratic opponents, in denial as to their risk for far too long. As such, it should remain a salutary lesson when confronting the jihadis now, not to repeat the mistakes of the 1930s.
