With regard to the hearings. They are awesome. Everyone is having their finest hour. Everybody knows the game is up. Time to come clean. Start doing it right. The new beginning. And what game might that be? Because I certainly believe anything related to Iraq is a "game", nor do I think anyone in their right mind does either.. As for the hearings themselves, Rumsfeld and his chiefs did seem to handle themselves well... He may survive still, but my bet is that somewhere down the line he will resign.. In fact, I almost wish he'd resign because then the partisan democrats could be satiated with obtaining their "chunk of flesh" and it might prevent dwelling on the issue.. It's pretty clear that there is a definite disconnect between the political and criminal aspects related to this investigation. The CID/JAG folks certainly seemed to be treating this investigation as just another ordinary criminal matter, rather than understanding the strategic and politically damaging potential should those photos be leaked to the public. And something tells me that's going to get fixed... On the other hand, apparently several Arab networks were covering the hearings live. And THAT'S ONE POSITIVE THING that MIGHT just come out of this... Because if they see the efficacy and appropriateness that Americans show in punishing those accused of abuses, they might just see how it would be appropriate in their own lives, and certainly with regard to their own governments.. I really hope we can wind up making some awesome lemonade out of this bushel of sour lemons... But it's going to take time. Hawk
