I detect a mood of considerable anxiety, fear and anger and, indeed, a recognition that things are not going to get fixed easily or quickly. I think the oil price says it all.

The Iraq situation, ie the prison atrocities, has had an extremely bad effect. Perhaps a wake-up call to those who believed otherwise and who now begin to see the US administration as the monster it is. Why it should have happened now I don't know, because whole war/invasion has been illegal and unjustified from the beginning. Some might even regard the killing of innocent people by cluster bombing as more obscene and repulsive than feigned sex acts in the prison, bad as they are. There were no WMDs, Saddam has gone, so there are no valid reasons (not that there ever were) why the US forces should remain there, let alone go around torturing and killing people. The whole thing stinks. Bush & Co should be in jail.

Frankly, I think the gold party is over for some time. Actually, it was only a paper/derivative party from the beginning and now that many of the bulls have been slaughtered I don't think there will be any big upside moves for a while. Bounces sure, but nothing more.
