Dear thread companions,
Please excuse the post before this one- for I am sure it is an unpleasant and inapproproate post for this forum. It has its genesis elsewhere, and it is a shame some people can't compartmentalize a bit better. Just ignore it- and let us move on.

I finished the House of Gentle Men (interesting juxtaposition, eh?)- and it was very good. I'm not sure I like the ending- and I don't want to say why, because I don't want to ruin it for you. It IS very well written, lyrical and very redemptive- but almost too redemptive, as you will see if you read the book. I'd love for someone else to read it, so we could compare notes.

I am now reading The Fragility of Goodness, which I started a while ago, but put down for some juicy novel, and never picked back up, until now. Am also reading The Book of Illusions and Blue Angel.

fun words today in class
djinn, sarcophagus, Phalangist Christians, Fatwa (one of my kids is reading my copy of From Beirut to Jerusalem), Kibbutz, Talmud, dioptric, flounce, abhor, nadir, demi monde, de jure, de facto, eclectic, idiosyncratic (again), metamorphosis, Hobbesian, erstwhile, Bantu, phlegmatic (I think for the second time) - and I can't remember the rest. They just went wild with the words today. The entire board was covered. The only on I missed was dioptric. I KNEW it had to do with measuring the eye, but I thought it also had to do with measuring curves. Had to pay up on that one.
