That is a very tough one - but personally I'd always look for an "out" and this is the way a modern military operates. If the plan had a chance of success and escape, I would do it.
When Israel rescued its hostages in Entebbe, the odds were low but there was always that hope that they would succeed and, of course, they did.
When the US tried to rescue the hostages in Iran, the odds were low and when it started off with helicopters crashing, it was abandoned.
Israel wanted to kill Saddam, but when their practice run caused casualties, they abandoned the plan.
US has had many opportunities to kill perceived enemies and has not used suicide tactics to do so to my knowledge.
I do admit that your question is tough and I hesitated to answer it one way or another. Hitler is an evil that has yet to be duplicated in the history of mankind. So, I think my hesitation is reasonable.
I see so many posters comparing people with Nazis, people they see as enemies. In reality, there is no comparison. There was and is and, hopefully, will never be another Hitler. |
