It's easy to be disillusioned with War. What's to like? We went from being unwilling to participate in mass bomber raids over Dresden and Hamburg to fire-bombing Tokyo and then annihilating Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Interestingly Victory ended the inhumanity and civilization returned. Pretty much the way it goes. It's the nature of war.
