Wrong. The prisoners were at the bottom of the power pole. There are few powers as absolute as the power jailors wield over prisoners. When one person is bound on the ground and the other is free and has a gun, that's about as close to absolute power - albeit on a micro scale - as you can get. The jailor may not have any power outside that room, but inside it the power is absolute.

Not surprisingly, this sort of relationship often brings out the worst in people, which is why prisons the world over so often become bastions of sadism.
