“That is always how the logic goes. Arab hostility is Israel's fault.”

I don’t care why the Arabs are angry. I don’t care whose fault it is. Why are we involved?

“Let's see, on one hand the Liberty (a friendly fire incident during a shooting war)...”

A few weeks ago the Captain of the Liberty publicly changed his testimony. He said that he had been put under tremendous pressure after the attack not to say what he thought – which was that the attack on the Liberty was deliberate. All of the sailors who survived the attack say the same thing.

Not only did Israeli jets bomb and strafe the Liberty, an unarmed ship, but they strafed men in lifeboats. This is the testimony of MEN WHO WERE THERE and who were strafed. Yeah, a friendly fire incident -- one that went on for 1.5 hours, on a clear day, on an unarmed ship, with a thirty foot American flag? Are you saying that these American sailors are liars? You believe the account of a foreign government over the eyewitness account of American sailors who lived through the incident? It is this kind of denial, and blind loyalty to a foreign government that makes me distrust not just Israel, but Israel’s supporters in this country.

And yes, I make a big deal of this. It tells me something very important about the type of people we are dealing with.

“...you have even brought out the crowning piece of evidence - there were Israeli nationals living in Hollywood FL in 2001.”

If there were Saudi Arabian “nationals” tracking the 9/11 hijackers around the country, I would like an account of their activities. What is wrong with an airing of the issue? It sure would help. There are many of people like me who have doubts.

“Hello, can you hear how insane you sound?”

You can’t answer my points, and you can’t say why we are involved in a foreign quarrel, so you do the inevitable, the human, the all too human thing. You resort to insults. This is an admission of weakness. The part of you that cannot be bribed away from the truth knows that my arguments are hard to counter. The response you make to the weakness of your position is anger at me (in much the same way --- the realization just this second occurs to me --- that my anger at Israel has as its ultimate source the immense doubts I have about Washington. I would not worry about Israel so much if I had the least little confidence in the leadership of my own government).
