MORE TERRIBLE PICTURES COMING Mid-East Realities - MER - www.MiddleEast.Org - 7 May 2004: George Bush has now appologized, in his own rather convoluted way, three days in a row -- on Arab TV Wednesday, with King Abdullah yesterday, and today in an Egyptian magazine. And he's sending his National Security Adviser to Berlin to meet with the beleaguered 'Palestinian Authority' Prime Minister, though one has to wonder just why the Palestinians want to go to Germany to meet with Condi Rice after all that has happened and after Sharon's big show for the 10th time at the White House. They could have, and should have, told Condi that Secretary of State Powell can visit Yasser Arafat in Ramallah anytime he wants to; and left it at that for now. There's the smell of political blood throughout the Washington environment now. Few here in Washington can remember a day when so many top Generals and the Secretary of Defense all spent hour after hour being critically questionned by members of Congress with all the major networks providing live coverage throughout most of the day. The Bush Administration is now engaged in the most serious crisis, and the most intense damage control, since taking power after the 5-4 Supreme Court decision that put them in control some three years ago. But the real reason for all this appologizing and grandstanding is not what has come out so far, but what is yet to come. Pictures that have yet to emerge in public are rumored to show U.S. soldiers practically beating Iraqi prisoners to death, raping young boys, forcing female Iraqi prisoners to have sex, forcing male prisoners to masturbate with female soldiers, and further despicable acts done on dead bodies. Whether the rape pictures published by MER and others some days ago are actual remains to be determined, as we said at the time. Whatever, what is to come is said to be far more shocking then what has been shown so far. There are also rumors that before what we have been calling TortureGate became such a major crisis, there may have been some attempts by the CIA and/or groups involved with the military to attempt to discredit some of the more outrageous pictures as staged or pornography. But at this point it will be very difficult for the Americans to do the kind of disinformation and covering up that they and their Israeli partner have been so successful with over the years. Washington is now bracing for the Sunday papers and talk shows. The New Yorker's Seymour Hersh, who ignited TortureGate with his exposee in the current issue of the magazine, is planning to reveal more pictures and details he has obtained on the ABC News Program This Week. No doubt the other major networks are scampering at the moment to come up with any thing they can go with as well. Which brings us to the Israeli connection which hardly anyone in official Washington dares mention and which the corporate media takes a pass on whenever they can. Their is the involvement of Israel's Mossad in training the Americans how to interrogate and torture Arabs -- the 'hoods' and torture techniques right out of the Israeli playbook. There is also the possible involvement of Mossad agents -- let into Iraq by U.S. Administrator Paul Bremer and the Jewish Pentagon neocons -- in the actual interrogation and deaths of some of the tortured Iraqis as well as the Palestinian leader Abu Abbas. And for all the moralizing from so many of Washington's top politicians insisting that the pictured torture tactics are 'inhuman', 'unAmerican', and stomach turning...the unspoken reality is the Israelis have been doing far worse to far more Palestinians for many years now...with the U.S. not only looking the other way but oftentimes helping in various ways. |
