I know that Yassin ordered the Ashdod attack because the Israeli Security Services announced that he ordered it, and Hamas also announced that it was their operation. Yassin was head of Hamas; he gave the orders for attacks, and Hamas proudly claimed credit for the Ashdod attack, even if it wasn't as successful as they hoped. So there is no disagreement on this issue between Israel and Hamas. If you'll notice, it was always sympathetic western outlets that claimed Yassin was purely a "spiritual leader" who had nothing to do with military operations. Yassin never claimed it himself.
